Analytics is off until you agree

Rockies Field Guide uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which guides are read. It loads only after you choose Accept in the banner at the bottom of the page. If you decline or make no choice, no analytics script is loaded and nothing is sent to Google.

What Google Analytics collects

If you accept, Google Analytics records:

• the pages you view, the page you came from, and when;
• your browser, device type, screen size and language;
• your approximate location (country, region or city), which Google derives from your IP address.

It stores two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_N9JYGTBNC9, which tell repeat visits apart and last up to two years. They contain a random identifier, not your name or email. Google processes this data under its own privacy policy, and it may be stored outside Canada. We see only aggregated reports. We do not use it for advertising and do not sell it.

Your choice is stored on your device

Your accept-or-decline choice is saved in your browser’s local storage under rfg-analytics-consent so the banner does not reappear. It never leaves your device. Turning analytics off above, or clearing your browser’s site data, removes the Google Analytics cookies.

Hosting

The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare receives your IP address and request details to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse, under the Cloudflare privacy policy. Fonts and images are served from this site, not from third parties.
